Jet2.Com Flight Review LS819 MAN - RHO

As part of a family holiday, I recently experienced a flight onboard UK Low Cost Airline Jet2.Com. Jet2 has recently updated their fleet with adding 30 new Boeing 737-800 Next Generation aircraft featuring Sky Interior cabins . The summer season of 2017 is when the new fleet started to roll in. Also, during the main summer season, an Airbus A330 is leased from Air Tanker for extra capacity. This aircraft was scheduled on my return flight but I’ll cover that flight in a later review.

Check In -

Our flight was due to take off from Manchester. Upon arrival at Manchester Terminal 1B we were directed by staff to the self-service bag check machines. As we checked in and received our boarding passes online, as we booked with Jet2holidays as part of our package holiday deal, jet2 holidays provide a hotel and transfers in addition to our jet2 flight, we had to tag our own bag and the staff would do the rest. In addition to the jet2 check in on the lower floor of the terminal, Jet2 passengers have access to their own security channel, which can be used is your boarding pass with the automatic barriers.

In recent times, the mag group who own Manchester airport, has spent a lot of money for a smooth security experience, Full body scanners and normal scanners was in place. The security procedures took under 15mins, a lot of passengers I saw in the queue were struggling take everything off and a lot of people didn't put the trays after use.

The boarding process was free for all, no seat numbers were called and there was no speedy boarding. Upon boarding, the friendly cabin crew gave us a warm welcome and we were able to find our seat which was 1A. The seat was classed as an extra legroom seat which cost an extra £12 but was well worth the price.

The Flight -

Flight Number - LS819

Route - Manchester International (Man) - Rhodes (RHO)

Aircraft - Boeing 737-800 (G-JZHX)

The Boeing 737-800 that was assigned to our flight was only 4 months old. Jet2 likes to name their aircraft after the cities that they fly to. In this case our flight was onboard “Jet2Barcelona”. The seat was very comfortable, jet2 uses leather seats with a mixture of red and grey seats which goes great with Sky Interior of the Boeing aircraft (Maybe list the seat manufacture).

The majority of the announcements were all automated, including the safety and passenger information. The flight time to Rhodes is usually 4 hours 30 minutes but due to a tailwind, the flight time was estimated at 4 hours. During the taxing we crossed runways and took off where you would see Jodrell Bank (which is a famous observatory, since I was sitting on the left hand side of the aircraft.

If you were sitting on the right hand side, when the aircraft banks towards the right, you'd have a great view of the airport. We cruised towards 37000ft and the captain same on the pa explaining our route to Rhodes island. The captains flight plan took over the Netherlands including Amsterdam, The Netherlands, canals and city centre, the countryside of Germany, Czetch Republic, Austria and the beautiful mountains of Graz, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina before heading into Serbia, Kosovo, Macedonia and Greece. After we left the mainland, the sun was starting to set and some of the most beautiful sunsets can be seen over Aegean Sea and seen on the decent into Rhodes.

On approach into Rhodes airport, you turn in and have a whole view of the old and the new town, before flying over the resort of Ixia with its hotels and loads of amenity buildings all lit up in the night and before you know it you would land at Diagoras international airport of Rhodes.

Since Rhodes is a small airport, with many charter flights. The airport design is unique as they are no pushback trucks to push aircraft back, as aircraft can turn by themselves and taxi to the single runway.

Apart from a 15min delay due ATC slot issues, we landed 5 minutes ahead of our scheduled arrival time

The Service -

Jet2’s standard of service is very high for a low cost airline. One of the main reasons I travel with Jet2.com is they announce on every flight their “Onboard Together Policy”. It has been created by the cabin crew and Jet2 Passengers to protect any anti-social Behavior onboard any flight which has put my mind at ease. All the flights are a Buy on Board service meaning you pay for your food and drink onboard with "The Menu" . On these types of flights, I always bring my own food as some of the prices are quite high.

For example, you can get a sandwich for £4.50 which includes a packet of crisps, a choco combo which includes a small packet of biscuits or a chocolate bar with any hot drink for half price, passengers who pre ordered meals online for an extra fee would be served first, some of the options include a breakfast combo with scrabbled eggs and bacon to the traditional British Sunday dinner, with chicken or beef with peas and stuffing.

After the food service, the cabin crew push to gain their duty free targets for the day, which is usually 2 perfumes and 2 watches as their stock is limited as they say during PA Announcement. During boarding, each passenger was given a 20% off voucher for perfumes, cosmetics and watches which passengers can use onboard the flight or on their return flight Home.

The overall service onboard was smooth as some passengers request champagne to kick start their holiday and the cabin were friendly and nice to speak too, I spoke to one of the crew who was the number 3 onboard the flight, used to live out in Rhodes for 6 years told me some of sights I need to visit that I haven't been too.

Overall -

Jet2 is setting the standard for low cost travel, with prices starting from £25, customers can get a lot included in the price from 22kg baggage allowance, allocated seating. Jet2 strives on great flight times and has been an recommended airline by Which? And they have been voted best airline in Britain by tripadvisor. With some of these Jet2 promises, they can challenge other rival airlines who are based at Manchester, which includes Thomas Cook, TUI Airlines, Monarch Airlines, EasyJet and Ryanair who all offer holiday package services.
